If you’ve been to the Dominican Republic, chances are you’ve heard plenty about Punta Cana. But about an hour and a half north of Punta Cana International Airport, there’s another beach destination quickly making a name for itself: Miches. Located along the Dominican Republic’s northeastern coast, Miches offers beautiful beaches, lush tropical scenery and a growing collection of impressive all-inclusive resorts.
Josh knows Punta Cana very well and has visited the area many times over the years. When he put together a FAM trip with 22 resort tours in just four days, he wanted the group to start somewhere a little different: Miches.
Miches is still much less developed than Punta Cana, with a quieter, more untouched feel and beautiful beaches surrounded by lush, tropical scenery. Several impressive all-inclusive resorts have opened here in the last few years, and after seeing the area firsthand, our agents came back raving about it.
During their time in Miches, our agents stayed at the adults-only Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa and toured its family-friendly sister property, Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, along with Zemi Miches Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton. Seeing all three resorts firsthand gave our team a chance to compare some of the best new all-inclusive options in Miches for families, couples, honeymoons and group vacations.
All three resorts impressed us, but Zemi was a definite standout.
Zemi Miches Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort
Best for: Families and travelers looking for something a little different
Of the resorts our agents visited in Miches, Zemi was one of the biggest standouts.
This new, family-friendly all-inclusive is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection and draws inspiration from the Dominican Republic’s indigenous Taíno heritage. The design feels unique and connected to its surroundings, which immediately sets it apart from a more traditional Caribbean all-inclusive.
While Zemi is family-friendly overall, it also offers adults-only spaces. Our group was especially impressed with the rooftop bar and infinity pool reserved for adults-only guests staying in Club Azure rooms. It’s a great setup for travelers who want the amenities and energy of a family-friendly resort while still having access to spaces that feel a little more elevated and peaceful.
And then there are the surroundings. Zemi sits along Playa Esmeralda, with lush greenery, mountains in the distance and the more rugged natural beauty that stood out to our advisors throughout their time in Miches. We really could not get over the views from this one!
If you’re looking for a newer all-inclusive that feels different from many of the resorts you’ll find in Punta Cana, Zemi would be high on our list.
Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa
Best for: Adults-only getaways, honeymoons and couples
Secrets Playa Esmeralda is where our agents stayed during their time in Miches, giving them the chance to experience the resort beyond a quick tour.
This brand-new, adults-only all-inclusive brings the familiar Secrets experience to a destination that feels much quieter and less developed than the busier resort areas of the Dominican Republic.
You still get the polished all-inclusive experience, restaurants, pools and amenities you’d expect from Secrets, but with the natural coastline and lush surroundings that make Miches feel so different.
For couples who love the ease of an all-inclusive and the Secrets brand but want to experience somewhere new, this is definitely one to know about.
Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa
Best for: Families, couples and multigenerational groups
Directly next door to Secrets is its family-friendly sister property, Dreams Playa Esmeralda.
Dreams offers the polished, easy all-inclusive experience the brand is known for, with plenty for both adults and kids. It’s a great option for families who want a beautiful new resort with lots to do without sacrificing the relaxed feel that makes Miches special.
The location next to Secrets also makes these two resorts especially interesting for larger groups or destination weddings with a mix of adults and families. You have an adults-only option and a family-friendly option right next to each other, all within the same beautiful destination.

Is Miches Worth Visiting?

You’re not coming here for a busy resort strip or tons of attractions right outside your hotel. The appeal is really the opposite: beautiful beaches, tropical scenery and some seriously impressive new resorts in an area that still feels relatively undiscovered.
Zemi especially showed us just how much potential this area has, while Secrets and Dreams Playa Esmeralda offer two great options for travelers who already know and love those brands.
