Amsterdam in October

Kem & Lori traveled to Amsterdam, Scotland, and Ireland at the end of September and into October. It was an absolutely gorgeous time to visit these countries! This is one of Kem & Lori’s favorite times of the year to travel, as the seasons are just beginning to change.

Four Nights in Amsterdam

Kem and Lori started their trip to Amsterdam at the Apollo Hotel. They chose this resort for its prime city center location and the great views overlooking the intersection of five canals. The Apollo Hotel is within walking distance of many parks and museums, including the Anne Frank House, The Rijksmuseum, and Dam Square.

Streets, Food, Views, Canal Cruise

Kem and Lori spent most of their time strolling the gorgeous streets of Amsterdam, taking in the views, sampling the food, and enjoying the ambiance. The two also booked a canal cruise one evening which was a great way to explore the city and relax.

Local Shopping

Kem and Lori also loved wandering the gorgeous flower markets and local shops. They especially loved the cheese shops and visited the famous De Kaaskamer.

De Kaaskamer is one of the most famous cheese shops in Amsterdam. They popped into the quaint storefront, located about a half mile North of the flower market. The store is full of cheese and sells both imported and local varieties. They also offer wine, top-flight charcuterie, and home-roasted nuts. In addition, they offer delicious cheese baguettes to go!

World-Famous Fries at Mennekenpis

Kem and Lori also stopped at the popular Mannekenpis for their world-famous fries, or “Verse Vlaamse Friet”! Mannekenpis serves a variety of foods but they are most known for their fries which come with all sorts of different sauces. Kem & Lori went for the Amsterdam onion sauce. This is a great snack to grab while exploring the city as it is served in a to-go-type cone – perfect for strolling and sharing!

Amsterdam Icebar

Kem & Lori also visited the Amsterdam Icebar. The Icebar takes you on a voyage to the Arctic. Here you will follow in the footsteps of Dutch explorer Willem Barentz and experience what it was like to be stranded on the North Pole at the end of the 16th century. Everything from the walls to the seats to the drink glasses was made of ice! Don’t worry about bringing your coat and gloves – Amsterdam Icebar will provide these for you!
