13 Dec The Best Affordable Overwater Bungalows
Let’s face it, staying in an overwater bungalow isn’t exactly a cheap vacation. However, we put together a list of some relatively affordable options to help make your overwater bungalow dreams a reality. Enjoy!
Overwater Bungalows You Can Actually Afford
Laucala Island, Fiji – All-Inclusive
Laucala Island is an exclusive private-island resort with 25 huge stand-alone villas, each with their own infinity plunge pools. The crème de la crème of these villas is of course the Overwater Villa. The villa sits in a jungle-like setting with unbeatable privacy. This is a big selling point because many overwater bungalows are built right next to one another. Plus, this property is all-inclusive so you can enjoy all of your meals and refreshments – alcohol included – without every having to leave.
Sandals Royal Caribbean, Jamaica – All-Inclusive
Sandals recently added overwater bungalows to three of their resorts in Jamaica and St. Lucia. The real wow factor lies in the Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Villas with Infinity Pool at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay. There are five of these larger villas, plus 12 additional overwater villas on the property. They are all located off of a sandy islet that you reach by motorboat directly from the resort. You may never want to leave your bungalow, but if you do then you can try some of the eight restaurants, five bars and several pools on the main property.
El Dorado Maroma, Riviera Maya – All-Inclusive
El Dorado Maroma is home to Mexico’s first and only overwater bungalows – which they refer to as Palafitos, meaning “dwellings on stilts”. These unique suites blend Mexican and Tahitian design style that equates to a complete paradise. The Elite Palafitos at this adults-only, all-inclusive resort feature a huge deck with private infinity pool, an “Aguas del Amor” outdoor shower, your very own Jacuzzi and direct access to the gorgeous Caribbean waters directly below. They also come with butler service. In addition, the property has six restaurants and five bars and it’s food is some of the best you’ll find at an all-inclusive property.
Reethi Beach Resort, Maldives
The Maldives is known for being a legendary destination with equally legendary steep prices. However, Reethi Beach Resort is on a petite private isle in the Baa Atoll and the prices are surprising reasonable. Keep in mind that this one is not all-inclusive. However, your package price includes breakfast. They do have 3 charming beach bars on the property and daily free 30-minute snorkeling excursions. You must take advantage of this because Reethi Beach has one of the Maldives’ best house reefs.
Royal Huahine, French Polynesia
If you have your heart set on Tahiti, consider Huahine over Bora Bora for better prices. It is both more affordable and more private. Royal Huahine is the most luxurious property on the tiny island, which only has 1 supermarket and 8 small villages. The resort has 11 overwater bungalows, which all face west for prime sunset gazing. In addition, each bungalo has its own private deck and a soaking tub. This is not an all-inclusive resort, and the hotel’s only restaurant is on the pricey side, so you may consider stocking up at the store for some small snacks and meals.
4 Rivers Floating Lodge, Cambodia
For a truly unique experience, head to this remote eco-luxe lodge in Cambodia. It’s not such an easy jaunt to get to, with a 4-hour drive from Phnom Penh, then a 30-minute boat ride down the Tatai River surrounded by thick jungles. 4 Rivers Floating Lodge is more of a glamping experience than a resort, but once you see the 12 gorgeous tented villas, you may never set foot on an all-inclusive resort again. Each villa is inspired by African safari tentalows, with wine-barrel showers in the bathrooms and striped umbrellas over your own chaise lounges on the private balcony. Take advantage of your surroundings and book the resort-offered excursion to a nearby fishing village. We promise you won’t regret it!
Holiday Inn Resort, Vanuatu
Holiday Inn Resorts are known for having 3-star prices at 5-star locations, and Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu is no exception. The resort sits on its own private island which makes it perfect for a romantic retreat on a budget. Each bungalow accommodates 2 adults and has direct access to the lagoon. Although the lagoon-access bungalows are reserved for adults, the rest of the property is very family-friendly and offers Family Suites, a Kids Club and interactive kids’ pool area. There is also an activities program for children and teens. Ask your Enchanted Travel agent about the Kids Stay and Eat FREE Program. Resort facilities for the adults to enjoy include two stunning pools, a day spa, a nine-hole golf course, a restaurant with outdoor seating, two bars and a wood-fired pizza oven.
