23 Apr We Toured 12 Cancun Resorts. These Are the 5 We Recommend Most
Our agents, Marissa and Amanda, just wrapped up a Cancun FAM where they toured 12 resorts in just two days.
The goal when putting the itinerary together for this FAM was to get a better firsthand feel for properties we book all the time. We felt this especially within the Dreams and Secrets brands. There are so many options, and they can start to feel very similar online. Seeing them in person made a huge difference in understanding the overall vibe of each one and who they are best suited for.
Here are the five resorts that stood out the most.
Top 5 Cancun Resorts We Recommend Most

Secrets Moxché and Impression Moxché
This one was a standout across the board and one they both agreed on.
This is one of the most elevated all-inclusive experiences in Cancun right now. The property has a really unique layout with multiple pool areas that all feel different, so it never feels crowded or repetitive. The rooftop areas and beach clubs, especially on the Impression side, give it a more boutique, high-end feel compared to a typical all-inclusive. This all-inclusive resort also stands out for its food and overall attention to detail, which is something our clients really notice at this price point. Between the design, amenities, and overall experience, this is one of the top choices for couples who want something a step above the standard all-inclusive.
Why we love it:
- Elevated, luxury feel, especially at Impression
- Unique design compared to other Secrets properties
- Golf simulator on property included
- Located on a golf course
We also have a destination wedding here next year, so it was great to experience it in person and feel confident recommending it for couples and groups looking for a higher-end adults-only all-inclusive resort in Cancun.

Haven Riviera Cancun
A strong adults-only option that stood out for its overall feel.
Haven is a great choice for couples who want a quieter, more relaxed experience without sacrificing quality. The property has a more open, airy layout and does not feel overly built up or busy like some of the larger resorts. It is known for having solid food and a more laid-back atmosphere, which makes it especially appealing for couples who are not looking for a party scene. The beach and pool areas are easy to enjoy without feeling crowded, and overall, it just feels like a place where you can truly unwind for a few days.
Why we like it:
- Quieter, more relaxed vibe
- Great for couples looking to unwind
- Solid overall experience
If you want something a little more lowkey but still upscale, this is a great fit.

Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres
This one surprised them in a good way.
Majestic Mirage feels very polished and well thought out, especially for a newer property. The rooms are larger than what you typically see in Cancun, which is a big plus for both couples and families. The overall design leans more modern and clean, and everything felt very well-maintained when they toured. It also offers a more elevated experience without jumping into the highest price tier, which makes it a great value option. This is a really strong pick for clients who want something that feels newer and more upscale without going all the way into luxury pricing.
Why it made the list:
- Feels very new, clean, and updated
- Spacious suites
- High-end feel for the price point
It was not necessarily at the top of their list going into the trip, but after seeing it in person, it quickly became a favorite. Amanda also has a client getting married here in November, which made it even more helpful to tour.

Dreams Sapphire
This one really impressed them, especially as a family-friendly option that does not feel overly kid-heavy.
Dreams Sapphire is one of those resorts that is easy to recommend to a wide range of families. The layout is very walkable and open, and it has that lush, tropical feel that a lot of people are looking for in Cancun. It does a great job balancing family-friendly amenities with a more relaxed atmosphere, so it never feels overwhelming. There is a lot to do throughout the day, which makes it especially great for families with kids or teens who want activities included without constantly upgrading or paying extra. It is also a strong option for groups traveling together where some want a more laid-back experience, and others want more to do.
Why it stood out:
- Spacious, lush layout
- Villas big enough for large families or groups, with private pools.
- Tons of included activities like water slides, putt putt, trampolines, axe throwing, plus kids and teens clubs
If you love Valentin Imperial Maya but need something family-friendly, this is a great alternative with a similar overall feel.

Dreams Natura
Another standout on the family-friendly side.
Dreams Natura has a really unique mix of features that make it stand out from other family-friendly resorts in the area. It offers a lot of built-in activities, but the property itself still feels well-designed and visually appealing. One of the biggest highlights is the spa, which is more of a full experience than just a quick add-on. The resort also has a great balance for families who want both relaxation and entertainment in one place. It is a strong option for clients who want a newer feeling property with plenty to do, but still want a resort that feels put together and not overly chaotic.
Why it made the list:
- Good mix of activities for families
- Beautiful overall setup
- Gorgeous spa
The biggest highlight here was the spa. Marissa especially loved it and wished they had more time there, which says a lot considering how many resorts they saw in such a short timeframe.
A Few Additional Takeaways
Not every resort is for everyone, and that is exactly why trips like this are so helpful.
Dreams Vista and Dreams Jade were not the favorites overall. That said, Dreams Jade is very unique. It is technically a family resort but tends to attract more honeymooners and older couples. It is also fully handicap accessible throughout the entire property, which can be a major selling point for the right client.
The resorts they toured were intentionally chosen because they are ones we book often, but we did not feel we knew them well enough. Getting to see them all in person was extremely helpful, especially when trying to differentiate between the many Dreams properties.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cancun Resorts
How do I choose the best all-inclusive resort in Cancun?
The best resort really depends on what you are looking for. Some are better for couples and a quieter, more upscale experience, while others are designed for families with more activities and entertainment. The biggest differences usually come down to overall vibe, layout, food quality, and how busy or relaxed the resort feels. That is why firsthand experience makes such a difference when narrowing it down.
What is the difference between Secrets and Dreams resorts?
Secrets resorts are adults only and tend to feel more elevated and romantic, making them a great fit for couples and honeymoons. Dreams resorts are family-friendly and offer more activities for kids and teens, while still maintaining a nice overall experience for adults. Some Dreams properties feel more relaxed and upscale than others, which is why it helps to compare them individually.
Is seaweed a problem at Cancun resorts?
Seaweed can vary throughout the year and can change quickly, even week to week. During this trip, Dreams Sapphire and Dreams Natura had noticeably less seaweed, but that is never guaranteed. Resorts do their best to manage it daily, but it is always something we keep an eye on when helping clients choose the right location.
What is the best Cancun resort for couples?
For couples looking for a higher-end adults-only experience, Secrets Moxché and Impression Moxché are some of the best options right now. Haven Riviera Cancun is another great choice for couples who want something more relaxed and low-key.
What is a good family-friendly alternative to Valentin Imperial Maya?
Valentin Imperial Maya is a popular adults-only resort, and many of our clients ask for something similar that allows kids. Dreams Sapphire is one of the closest matches we have found. It has a similar lush, spacious feel but adds in family-friendly amenities and activities.
Are newer resorts in Cancun better than older ones?
Not necessarily, but newer resorts often feel more modern and updated, which is appealing to a lot of travelers. Properties like Majestic Mirage stand out for this reason. That said, some older resorts have more established grounds and a stronger overall feel, so it really comes down to personal preference.
