14 Nov A Review of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort on the Big Island in Hawaii
Kem & Lori flew from Maui to the Big Island last week and stayed at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort was originally built in 1996 and renamed as a Westin property in June 2018 after a $46 million renovation. The property is still owned and managed by the former namesake, Prince Resorts, although it is now officially a Marriott property.
A Review of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort on the Big Island in Hawaii
The resort is on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island on a stunning white-sand beach. This is on the dry northwestern side of the island, which gets less rain compared to the opposite side. The Kohala Coast is known for it’s stunning beaches and for its cultural and archaeological sites, all nesteled among centuries-old lava fields.
Dining Options
Enjoy four dining venues all with a unique island vibe.
Restaurants include Meridia, a Mediterranean eatery. Here you can enjoy farm to table specialties made with authentic Mediterranean ingredients. They also serve delicious handcrafted cocktails at your table or in the cozy lounge. In addition, the restaurant has amazing ocean views and great service. This is a great place to enjoy the sunset.
For breakfast, check out Ikena Landing. This breakfast restaurant is open daily from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Here they offer a delicious breakfast buffet as well as a full menu of tasty a la carte options to start your day. We love that they offer healthy options like the Acai Bowl. Or opt for the Eggs Benedict.
For a casual pool snack or easy lunch, check out Naupaka Beach Grill. They serve tasty drinks all day long and snacks such as the “Hapunachos” or Furikake Chicken Wings. In addition, their menu offers salads and sandwiches – we suggest trying the Naupaka Losbter Roll or the Kona Long Board Fish & Chips. They also serve island specialties like Poke Bowls and Loco Moco.
For coffee, cocktails, and light snacks, head to Piko Coffee + Bar. This is a great grab-and-go option to take as you head out on an excursion or the beach.
Amenities
In addition to the gorgeous beach, the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort is home to the award-winning 18-hole Hapuna Golf Course designed by Arnold Palmer.
There are also two beautiful swimming pools, including a 6,800-square-foot freeform family pool.
The property also has an adult-only infinity pool overlooking Hapuna Beach. You’ll also find the WestinWorkout Center and Crossfit Stuiod and the stunning Hapuna Spa on property.
Beautiful Rooms
Choose from a wide variety of room categories. All rooms come with an amazing balcony. In addition, all rooms are either partial ocean view or ocean view, ensuring you have a gorgeous view no matter where your room is located on the property. Plus, choose from rooms with 1 King or 2 Queen beds, 1 bedroom suites, or the Lanai Suite. The Lanai Suite is a large 1-bedroom suite with 1.5 bathrooms on the ground floor. These suites offer great walkout access to the beach and pool.
Great Location
Hapuna means “spring of life” in Hawaii. This name refers to the underground springs in the area. In the area you will find the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail. This 175-mile trail is great for hiking and runs across Hapuna Beach north to Kauna’oa Bay at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
The Kahilu Theatre is also a great gem in the local area. The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort has partnered with Kahilu Theatre to serve the community and support the local arts of Hawai’i.
Other local attractions include Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, Hawaii Forest & Trail, activities at Kauna’oa Bay. There are also several places to bike, sail, scuba dive, and horseback ride.
